1587  The State Hospital in Raleigh, Wake Co., NC, also known as Dorthea Dix Hospital or Dix Hill, was established in 1851 and on Feb. 22, 1856 the first patient was admitted suffering from "suicidal mania".  In the first nine months, fifty-one males and thirty-nine females were admitted.
