    Note
    • Jenerette descendants claim that Margaret is the niece or grandaughter of Louis II the Great Conde de Bourbon de Conde. This is highly improbable. These same descendants also claim that she was not to be allowed passage on the same ship as her husband Thomas Devane, so she disguised herself as his page to travel with him, they traveled to Scotland and Barbados before arriving in North Carolina. There is no documentation or records to back any of this up. Some also claim that they were married in North Carolina, which would negate the above story. So poor Margaret (or Marguerite) is the subject of much speculation.
I believe she came from the de Bourbon de Conde family, and I have placed her genealogically in the most likely position. However, there are numerous possibilities.

If she is descended from Louis II, the scenario below is much more likely.
In order for Margaret to have been a niece of Louis II, she would have to have been a child of one of his siblings.
In order for Margaret to have been his granddaughter, she would have to have been a child of one of his children.
In the first case, Louis II had two siblings with issue, Anne and Armand. Both died before Margaret could have been born.
In the second case, Louis II only had one child survive to adulthood, Henry III Jules, b. 1643. Henry III Jules had 11 children, the last being born in 1679. Four had issue, three girls and one boy. Any of the three girls could have been her mother, but she would not likely carry the name Conde unless her father was unknown.

However, if Margaret was either the grand-niece, or great granddaughter of Louis, then there are other options:
Anne (Louis II’s sister) had two unnamed sons (both have only brief mention in the history books, neither named) The elder is not a likely father to Margaret, and the younger died in 1673.
Armand (Louis II’s brother) had one child with issue, Francois Louis (who married the daughter of Louis II’s son Henry III Jules, Marie Therese).
Louis II himself, had one child with issue, Henry III Jules.

Marie Therese and Francois’ children were born between 1689-1697, Margaret was born about 1703.
Louis III’s children were born between 1690-1709, also possible parents of Margaret. Since this would put her with siblings both older AND younger than her, this is where I will show her. Perhaps future generations will find/verify her true parentage.

I find it highly unlikely that an additional (legitimate) child of this line would have gone completely undocumented in such recent history. Also, many of the sources that claimed she is a de Conde descendant have since disappeared. (12/12/2012).

However, Louis XIV had many children with several partners. They are not all documented. It is entirely possible that a half-sibling of Louise-Francoise was the parent of Margaret.
