    • Most of the information and commentary on this branch of the family comes from Joseph G Hicks, Sr They deliberately changed the spelling of their surname from Lane to Lain.

11/2015 -He died at Malvern,Hot Spring Co. Ar. My Cousin who set in his lap as a child said he had metal in his arm from Civil War. She also told me his wife Margaret Gilmore smoked a Corn Cob Pipe and the item she smoked was called Life Everlasting Joe Sr. His new toombstone has wrong dates on it. My Uncle had it made and the old one of homemade concrete removed..He is burried under Lane.

The existing gravestone is a replacement for an earlier one.
The earlier one gave a birth date of Nov. 08, 1829 and a death date of May 20, 1930. I believe the earlier one is more nearly correct. An additional set of B&D dates for Andrew have been found: Born Nov.,3, 1838 ; Died May 25,1930. Take your choice.

Original Tombstone for Andrew and Margaret Lane. Andrew Born Nov. 8, 1829; Died May 20. 1930. Margaret Born Apr. 10,1841; Died Apr. 29, 1918.
